For the second time in two games Chelsea played relatively poorly only to win the match in stoppage time. Branislav Ivanovic 'earned' the opening goal with a great volley from an enormously offside position, but then just like under Andre Villas-Boas Chelsea opted to sit back rather than press the attack and Wigan Athletic then put us under a worrying amount of pressure, eventually scoring via a thunderbolt off the left foot of Mohamed Diame.
It looked like things were over. With seven minutes to go, only substitute Fernando Torres looked like he had any fight left in him, although he mostly expressed said fight by falling over. Wigan had the belief - and frankly it looked like they were right - that they could press on for a winner, but that opened them up for Chelsea to counter whenever they had the ball, 92 minutes in, Didier Drogba crossed for Torres, whose brilliant volley crashed off the far post and bounced off Juan Mata to give the Blues a 2-1 lead, one which rapidly became a 2-1 win.
Not the thrashing we'd hoped for, but we'll take three points any which was we can get them right now. Rate the players after the jump!
PS: Also there was a pigeon.
