Latest On John Terry Injury: Defender Admits To 'Breathing Problems'

Ever wanted more proof that John Terry cannot simply be mere mortal? The news broke early in England this morning that the latest development in the mystery injury the centre back suffered is that it is feared two ribs have been cracked, and that scans will reveal the full extent of this injury.

What's alarming about this is the fact that the defender himself admitted having difficulty breathing against Benfica, which is probably why the team, and in particular, the backline, looked a disorganised mess - having the captain in medical distress tends to that.

While it was originally thought it was the hare-brained madness of David Luiz that caused this injury, it was revealed by Terry it first originated in the first leg of the quarter-final tie in Lisbon, meaning that he played through what is severe pain and still manage to put in a sterling performance against Aston Villa.

Is John Terry human? Surely not. Is he some sort of superhero? Probably. That means it's a real concern for Chelsea if he is saying stuff like...

"I thought it was okay but, later in the second half, it just seemed to be getting worse and I was struggling to breathe to be honest.

"It was difficult. I have never felt anything like that before."

The bad news is that well, obviously, we lose a damn fine defender ahead of a testing period for the Blues, including a trip from Barcelona, a tie in which it would be kind of useful to have the best defender in the team playing. While Gary Cahill can slot in to the central defender position, he resembles a downgrade, and with Chelsea playing six games in the following twenty five days, it'd also be a lot more reassuring to have some flexibility in team selections.

The good news is that part of John Terry's superhero-ness is that he will keep playing through the pain, or so he claims. The medical staff will ultimately have the last say here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Terry simply just eats Gary Cahill and plays anyway despite which name Di Matteo puts on the teamsheet.
