Chelsea Vs. Benfica: Final Score 2-1 Chelsea (3-1 Aggregate), Blues Advance To Semis

Chelsea advance to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League after beating Benfica 2-1 at home and 3-1 on aggregate. After a 1-0 away win in Lisbon the Blues were never in any real danger of being knocked out, and they knew that defending deep and counterattacking would probably see them through, so that's what they did. Letting Benfica have the ball and looking to break makes for some ugly football, but it resulted in a 1-0 lead through a Frank Lampard penalty, so that was nice.

The red card to Maxi Pereira was also nice, and so was the spell of pressure Chelsea applied for much of the second half, one which resulted in at least six clear-cut scoring chances over the spell of twenty minutes or so (or, if you're counting, about as many as Benfica managed in 180 minutes of football). What was less nice is the fact that they didn't score with any of them and then fell apart defensively with 15 minutes to go, allowing Javi Garcia to score off a corner and giving us all a bit of a heart attack before Raul Meireles saved the day with a silly individual goal.

So, yeah, that wasn't the best thing in the world, but I'll certainly take it. Community ratings form after the jump...
