Well I can't say I saw this coming. Chelsea FC have announced today that they agreed to terms with both Werder Bremen and midfielder Marko Marin on a deal that will see him coming to London this summer. Wow. I have to say, I was really caught off guard by this news. There is no word yet on the financial details of this move, but Marin is exactly the type of player that we've been crying for here at WAGNH and not likely to be a break the bank type of move. There are, however, rumors that Romelu Lukaku will be heading the other way on loan as part of this deal which would be an excellent fit for the giant Belgian.

Marin is a 5'7" 23 year old German international. He's a pretty versatile player, generally spread among any advanced midfield positions or on the wings. While he offers very little defensively, he's a pretty excellent player with the ball at his feet. Like our own Gael Kakuta though, he does tend to try for the spectacular a little too often for my liking, although coming to Chelsea where he won't be the best player on the team will probably do wonders for that habit. He's been a long term target of Tottenham, Manchester United, and Arsenal among others.

Marin will be an excellent player to have on the squad, as he gives us a skillset that we aren't currently overflowing with. He'd also allow for the manager to occasionally give Juan Mata a day off, as even though they are different players they can slot into very similar roles.

While I'm not going to get into a full scouting report right now in the interests of time, I will have one up later on for all of you. We will leave you with a nice little highlight video though, as everyone here knows that YouTube will tell you all you really need to know about a player. Enjoy, and leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
