Report: Kevin De Bruyne done for the season

We heard earlier today that Kevin De Bruyne limped off the pitch early on as Genk hosted Anderlecht (and got crushed). While there was immediately speculation on whether or not De Bruyne would ever suit up for Genk again, John Chapman has updated us with some info straight from the horses mouth:

De Bruyne tells Sporza that his broken toe will mean he's out until mid May or early June. He has played last game for Genk. #cfc

While four more games at Genk would have been fun to watch, this is certainly unlikely to be something that hampers the development of De Bruyne. In all likelihood De Bruyne will now head to London and begin his rehab at Cobham as most players do when injuries of this nature happen. The exact plan for De Bruyne for next season is unknown at this point, I'm sure whomever takes over (or remains in charge of) Chelsea will have a large say in that matter. He'll likely be fit by the time Chelsea head to America though, so those of us on this side of the pond can probably expect him to be a part of that contingent. Best of luck with your recovery Kevin, and congratulations on a solid season.
