Wow! I can't say I thought that one was coming. Chelsea are through to the FA Cup final after a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues turning a controversial match into an absolute rout. Didier Drogba opened the scoring after a scintillating first half in which both the teams had real chances to score, the Ivorian blowing up William Gallas before belting a shot past Carlo Cudicini at our old friend's near post.
The second half featured a bizarre 'goal' from Juan Mata, which was awarded despite a) not going over the line and b) John Terry having fouled about three people in the buildup. If the match had been won by a goal, it would have been a highly controversial call. It looked like it might have been when David Luiz injured his hamstring and let Emmanuel Adebayor clean though. The striker was brought down by Petr Cech, but fortunately for the keeper Gareth Bale was on hand to tap in, which meant Cech avoided a straight red card*.
*Yes, that's the rule. Sorry.
The Blues responded with a pair of late goals, Ramires chipping deftly over Cudicini for the third before a swerving Frank Lampard free kick put all Tottenham hope to rest. Florent Malouda made it five, probably just to make the match even more surreal. 5-1's one heck of a score in a semifinal, especially against a team ahead of us in the table, and although losing David Luiz is pretty painful. We'll let you know the prognosis there when we get it.
Meanwhile, we've got a date with Liverpool in the final. Let's win this.
