Josh McEachran likely to remain at Middlesbrough in January

Tony Mowbray has spoken with Eddie Newton, and Newton indicated that McEachran is likely to remain with Middlesbrough.

The Middlesbrough official website gave us a bit of an update on the Josh McEachran loan status, and it doesn't sound as if Chelsea are planning to recall the teenager in January. Tony Mowbray had the following to say via Boro's website:

"Eddie Newton was at the training ground on Friday and at the game on Saturday. He's not Rafa Benitez, of course, but he's telling me the club policy is not to bring on loan players back. He told me they have no reason intention of bringing him back. Josh is doing great for us and we obviously hope he can stay, but he's Chelsea's player."

It's still uncertain exactly what the plan is in the midfield for the January window, as both David Luiz and Oscar have shown that they might be able to provide some cover to the midfield in the last week. I think most would like to see additional cover for the position acquired though, and McEachran seemed the most likely internal option.

There is also Nathaniel Chalobah to consider as an internal option, and at the moment there is nothing new on his status with Watford. His loan spell is due to end in January, and it's unclear whether or not Chelsea will decide to extend his loan or not.
