We're always looking for fun things to write about here at We Ain't Got No History, and decided at some point this fall that we wanted to do a Chelsea's top prospect series. For you baseball and hockey fans out there, this type of thing is probably very familiar to you. It's fairly common to see people looking at the prospects teams in each of those sports, and offering insight into who they feel the best of the club's future stars are.
With that in mind, we've decided to do that same sort of thing here at WAGNH. About a week ago, I emailed all of the writers a form to gather their opinions on Chelsea's youngsters, and some of them have even responded. Today, we're going to open the voting up to you, because we want to have your insight into this as well.
For the purpose of this exercise, we're going to define a Chelsea prospect as any player that started this season under the age of 23, and to date has not yet accumulated more than 400 minutes between the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in a single season at Chelsea. This rules out every player that has made a first team appearance for Chelsea this season with the exception of Lucas Piazon, but leaves every Chelsea player on loan save Yossi Benayoun and Michael Essien eligible to be included. This obviously also allows you to choose anyone from the U18 and U21 ranks should you so choose.
I'm going to leave this poll open for a few days, with the goal being to write up one prospect per day for each of the last ten days before the January transfer window opens, and silly season gets going in full force. I'm also planning to do a post of players that just missed the cut, so make sure to get your vote cast before December 20. That said, take your time and think things through, taking a few minute before submitting is probably a good idea.
