Marouane Fellaini to miss Chelsea match after Shawcross headbutt

via @brocadfael

Good news everyone! Two pieces of good news, in fact. The first is moral -- Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross took a much-deserved headbutt to the chest from Maruoane Fellaini during his side's 1-1 draw against Everton at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday, which makes me happy just because Shawcross is (on the football pitch, at least) an enormous twerp.

And the second is that Fellaini, who managed to avoid punishment thanks to Mark Halsey missing that incident (and an elbow. And a punch) has now been suspended for three matches. Why is this Chelsea related? Well, we're the third team on Everton's fixture list -- they have West Ham United away on Saturday, then Wigan at home next week before we travel to Goodison Park on the 30th. The Toffees are not appealing the charge, which means the suspension dates are now set in stone, making what would have been a very difficult match substantially more straightforward (although by no means easy).

There's also some speculation from the Guardian that Fellaini's actions against Showcross may have made Everton more inclined to sell the Belgian in the upcoming transfer window. There are still several years left on the 25-year-old's contract, but if Everton are really in favour of letting him go at this point, I'd be very much in favour of Chelsea taking a look.
