Corinthians advance to Club World Cup final

While Chelsea still have to beat Monterrey to reach the final, Corinthians have already booked their place.

Corinthians weren't as convincing as many would have expected, but they managed to advance to the final of the 2012 Club World Cup by defeating Al-Alhy 1-0 this morning. The game's lone goal came from the head of Paulo Guerrero in the 30th minute. Corinthians will now wait for the result of Chelsea's match with Monterrey to determine their opponent in the final, while Al-Alhy will get the loser in a third place contest.

Corinthians generally looked fairly comfortable despite the unimpressive scoreline, something that shouldn't be all that surprising if you regularly watch them play. Like Chelsea, they managed to win last season's continental competition more to to great organization than an overall gap in talent.

The day's other game saw Sanfrecce Hiroshima defeat Ulsan Hyundai by a 3-2 score. That game decided fifth place in the tournament, and has ended the participation of both of the teams involved.
