Chelsea's U19 side continued their first season in the NextGen Series with a comfortable 6-0 victory over Molde on Thursday. Islam Feruz (2), Alex Kiwomya, Lucas Piazon, Reese Mitchell, and George Saville found the back of the net for the young Blues in the victory. The full match report can be found at the club's official website, which is fortunate considering that I couldn't find a stream to watch the game.
That's two wins, a draw, and a loss in the four games that Chelsea have played, with a pair of games remaining against Ajax before the knockout stage kicks off. The away fixture against Ajax will be played November 29, while the Cobham leg is scheduled for December 12.
The win has Chelsea at seven points, currently sitting third in the group. Even a pair of losses against Ajax should see Chelsea advance to the knockout round of the competition, although taking a point or two from those fixtures certainly wouldn't hurt. While results at this level really aren't that important, getting to the knockout round should give the youngsters a chance to get some more minutes against top young talent. It should also give us a few more opportunities to see the youngsters play, which always makes me smile.
