Josh McEachran wants to stay at Middlesbrough

Chelsea have a release clause in McEachran's loan agreement with Middlesbrough, but the midfielder would like to stay with the club for the remainder of the year.

Chelsea lack depth in the center of the midfield, and they've got the option to recall Josh McEachran in January should they choose to do so. Given the choice, though, McEachran would prefer to remain with Middlesbrough for the remainder of the season. Here's what he had to say:

"I’ve been at Chelsea since the age of seven and I’ve grown up there. It’s always been my dream to play regular first team football there. But at present, I’d like to stay here for the rest of the season. We’ve got a genuine chance of going up and I want to be part of it. There’s a long way to go this season and a lot could happen but we have a really good manager here and I like the way he wants to play."

I've got mixed feeling on leaving Josh at Boro for the remainder of the year. He's certainly good enough to get some minutes for the club right now, and it's always nice to see homegrown talent getting a chance with the club. On the other hand, Josh is getting valuable minutes in the Championship, certainly more than he'd get at Chelsea.

Recall or not, it's good to see that Josh is enjoying his time on the pitch at Boro and wants to stick with them all the way through their promotion push. That says a lot about him, and I'm ecstatic that he's having such a fantastic season.
