Chelsea supporter pictured making apparent racist gesture towards Danny Welbeck

Racism: Definitely not my favourite topic. With all of the Mark Clattenburg nonsense ongoing at the moment, I was hoping that Chelsea fans worldwide would take some sort of stand against racism, if only to support one of our own in John Obi Mikel. Sadly, that's not the case, as a photo taken at Stamford Bridge last night during the Capital One Cup tie against United appears to show a Blues supporter making monkey gestures towards black Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck.

Talk about disappointing. There's no reason save racism to make monkey gestures at football matches that don't involve Gareth Bale, and that this has happened immediately after the Clattenburg affair (not to mention the John Terry one) is frankly horrifying. Chelsea are investigating the issue and will hopefully take harsh action as soon as they have some sort of confirmation that this picture tells the whole story, but it undermines the fragile credibility of the whole club* for this sort of thing to be happening.

*How strange is it that a club which only a few years ago defined African football in England is now being embroiled in repeated racism scandals?

Nice timing, stupid. This is, in the wise words of Didier Drogba, 'a ****ing disgrace'.
