Chelsea fell behind early on when Alex Teixeira took advantage of some sloppy defending to put the hosts up 1-0. John Terry was a bit lucky to escape a handball in the box just prior to the goal, so it's very hard to argue that Shakhtar were lucky in any way. I guess at this point we can add throw-ins to the list of things Chelsea need to defend better if they want to win trophies this season.
Frank Lampard had to come off only 17 minutes into the game with an injury, and it would seem that there is very little chance he'll be fit to play on Sunday. Luckily for Chelsea, Ramires has been looking much more comfortable in the pivot of late. Ashley Cole picked up an absolutely foolish yellow card when he knocked over the opposing keeper, something that he really needs to be avoiding.
Overall, Chelsea just looked poor during the first half. There's still plenty of game to be played though, and we've seen Chelsea score multiple times in short periods several times this season already. Here's hoping it's a better second half.
