There's a decent chunk of stuff going on, but none of it's really that major. So y'all get a condensed Sunday post rather than three separate ones. Lucky you. Let's bullet point this.
-
Arsenal have apparently made a bid for Salomon Kalou, although it depends on who you believe. The Daily Mail are claiming that the Gunners have lodged a £3M bid for the Ivorian's services, and while nobody else has been quite that bold just yet there's clearly some interest there.
How likely is Kalou to jump ship to the Emirates? It doesn't seem particularly plausible - if the reason he wants to leave Chelsea is his wages, he's not exactly going to be getting a raise at Arsenal, and it's difficult (but not impossible) to see him starting in an Gunners front three. £3M also seems a little low. I know there are many fans who wouldn't mind seeing the back of Kalou, but he's a good player who's done a lot for the club and it'd be sad to see him just handed off to Arsene Wenger. Fortunately, I don't think it'll happen. - It sounds like the Kenneth Omeruo deal is just about wrapped up, and the Standard Liege defender will be transferred to Den Haag as soon as it's done. If, like me, you don't know much about Omeruo, Steve's got a neat little profile for you here.
There's been some complaints raised about Chelsea targetting another young defender when we have the likes of Tomas Kalas, Nathan Ake, Nathaniel Chalobah etc etc etc running around, but the simple truth of the matter is that acquiring prospects costs us basically nothing and so we should just be signing as many players as we can possibly get our hands on. Having too many top young defenders is a problem we'd love to have, although not even Kalas is a guarantee to pan out. Midfielders and strikers are being recruited too, never fear. - Josh McEachran failed to appear in the FA Cup match against Portsmouth, although he was named to the bench. That means he won't be cup-tied for any team that wants to take him on. Who's linked to the 18-year-old midfielder/basketeer who could use some help in the 4th round? Swansea City fit the bill, and it would come as no surprise if McEachran is Wales-bound within the next week or so.
- The Gary Cahill deal is almost done. Or something. Of course, that's been the case for something like two weeks, so we'll let you know when it's actually done.
