Report: Chelsea FC set to sign Patrick Bamford

This one really seemed to go down quickly. We first heard rumors of the Chelsea bid yesterday and today he'll be heading to Cobham. For those of you who missed it, we profiled the prolific U18 striker yesterday. There have been rumblings that the club and player have been negotiating all evening and Bamford was left out of both Forrest's youth game and the first team game this evening. The BBC is now reporting that we're expecting to announce the signing of Bamford very soon:

BBC Radio Nottingham understands that Chelsea are set to sign Patrick Bamford from Nottingham Forest for a fee in the region of £1.5m

In addition to his ridiculous form of late, Bamford likely impressed the Chelsea coaching staff when he netted a hat trick on us this past summer. Bamford is cup tied to the FA Youth Cup, so unfortunately we won't have the opportunity to see him shine there. I'd imagine he immediately slots into the reserve team, especially with Lukaku likely to be on the first team bench for the next few weeks. Hopefully we'll have official confirmation of this deal very soon, but it appears to be yet another shrewd bit of business by Chelsea in January.
