We're a bit late on this because I'm lazy, but there's some pretty good news on the Lucas Piazon front - the Brazilian 18-year-old has been called up to the first team for the trip to Swansea City tomorrow. It's a big moment for the kid, who's been impressive at the youth and reserve levels so far this season. He's certainly happy about it:
Piazon's allegedly been given #35, and although it seems unlikely that he gets any playing time it's not totally out of the question. With Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou on Africa Cup of Nations duty and Nicolas Anelka sold to Shangshai Shenhua, Piazon's callup means he has an shot of making the bench should Florent Malouda get the start in midfield. Should Chelsea somehow end up with a commanding lead at the Liberty Stadium (which seems unlikely, given Swansea's home form), we could well see him making his debut.
Or he could just end up hanging out in the basket with Romelu Lukaku and Ryan Bertrand. Guess which is more likely!
PS: Piazon's background photo on Twitter appears to involve him karate chopping an American child in the throat. Huh.
