Chelsea FC Loan Roundup: 1/15/12

Another weekend is in the books, and this one will leave us with a slightly longer loan roundup than the last one. Josh McEachran will be heading to Wales this week but has not yet begun his spell there. Gael Kakuta has arrived in France and been handed the #12 jersey but was not yet ready for this weekends game. Both will likely see some action next weekend though, and Bruma, Kalas, Davila, and Delac will all be returning to action as well. We'll also be able to look forward to the debut of Kenneth Omeruo as the Eredivisie returns to action, but I'd expect that may be a few weeks away. Enough on that though, let's get into what happened with the kids that actually played this week:

  • Thibaut Courtois - The competitive balance in La Liga seem to be changing, and it was much in evidence as Villarreal provided absolutely no challenge to the young Belgian over the weekend. Atletico easily won 3-0 as Courtois had almost nothing to do for a change. Courtois also finished 3rd in the voting for the Belgian Golden Shoe, an award that goes to the best player in the Belgian League during the calender year. It's an impressive finish for Courtois when considering that he spent only half the season there. Things continue to look good for Courtois...
  • Rhys Taylor - Taylor was not as good as he was in his debut as he suffered defeat to Swindon by a 2-1 scoreline. While he wasn't bad by any stretch, he certainly could have been a bit more assertive during this one. His job doesn't appear to be in any jeopardy and I'd assume in the next few weeks his 1 month loan will become a season long loan.
  • Ben Gordon - Gordon started at left back and played the full 90 in his debut for Killie. He was relatively impressive in the 0-0 draw, but he's had some success in the SPL before so this should come as no surprise. He was one of the better players on the pitch this weekend which will hopefully be a regular event now. Nice to see him playing again...

That's it for this weekend, but as mentioned above the report will get longer again next week. We'll keep you posted as any other loans are announced, but I have the feeling we're nearing the end of those for this season.
