With all the talk of Luka Modric, Romelu Lukaku, and Javier Pastore, many of you have been asking why we haven't been linked to any sort of cover at right back. Gregory van der Weil rumors persisted all last summer, but nobody has even linked him to us so far this year. Earlier this summer we profiled a possible alternative in Samuel Inkoom, and today the Mirror is reporting that head scout Michael Emenalo will be in attendance for the Nigeria/Ghana game in Watford tomorrow with the intention of watching Inkoom specifically. Inkoom is a favorite of mine, so this coupled with the Lukaku signing has made this a fairly exceptional day.
While I'm usually cautious with this type of thing, the Mirror is specifically reporting that Emenalo will be at the game so we'll easily be able to judge this report's truthfulness come tomorrow. It's not a long trip from London, and Inkoom fills a very obvious need, so the rumor passes the initial smell test. The Mirror also goes on to suggest a price of between 4 and 6 million pounds, which if accurate would be a ridiculous level of highway robbery. Inkoom has been exceptionally unhappy at the Ukranian club where he's been the focus of a large amount of racial abuse, and his club does seem willing to let him move on asap because of this. The other clubs currently being linked with him are Fulham and Aston Villa, so coupled with his earlier quotes (found in his profile) I'd guess we are in an excellent position to land his signature. Here's hoping tomorrow morning leads to a flurry of noise about Inkoom, as his signing would create as close to a perfect summer as we could reasonably expect to have.
