Alvaro Pereira Deal DEAD - Wingback Says He'll Remain At Porto

Check out SBNation.com for all of the latest transfer deadline rumors and news.

The Alvaro Pereira deal/not deal has been keeping us all entertained for some time, mostly because absolutely nobody could agree on what was happening. We had several reports of him signing, several reports of the deal being dead, and one amusing instance of his agent insisting that the whole saga was some sort of play by Porto designed to tweak Chelsea's nose.

Now, however, we have what appears to be real, live confirmation that the deal is totally dead. Straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak:

I think once a player admits that they're not going anywhere it's probably time to give up the ghost. I can definitely see what Chelsea saw in Pereira - he's an excellent player who would give the team huge flexibility on the left and in the centre - but a the end of the day I thought spending €30M on a utility guy was far too much money and so did the club. With Porto refusing to budge from the buyout clause, it's astonishing that the negotiations lasted as long as they did.

So, Pereira is as officially negatory as you can get without an announcement from the club.
