I know, I know. After Goetze-gate, I really shouldn't trust anything that comes from Duncan Castle's fingers. But! This time there are quotes! Hurray quotes! Here we have one Florent Malouda claiming that he won't be leaving Chelsea tonight.

I've always been clear in my choices. It's going to be very difficult to take me out of my club. I've heard about Italy and Lyon – you've got to keep rumours alive but things will get calmer tonight unless I sign for an Albanian club. I've still got 2 years left on my Chelsea contract. My objective is to extend by one year until the 2014 World Cup. That hasn't changed and it won't change tonight.

Most people are taking the opportunity to indulge in a spot of Malouda-bashing, but I don't think that's fair. I mean, for one thing, we don't have any actual evidence that Chelsea have asked his to move on apart from a highly speculative tweet about involving him in a potential Luka Modric deal. How can Malouda selfishly reject a deal if there's no deal on the table?

If Malouda had said "I blocked a move away" then I might be a little vexed with him, but he hasn't, and therefore I don't think I should assume he did. This could easily be a question about whether he wants to stay at Chelsea. No real mention was made of a transfer away, and "It's going to be very difficult to take me out of my club" is hardly damning. Simply put, I don't see what's so wrong with what Malouda said. What am I missing?
