Mixed Messages Regarding 'Dead' Luka Modric Deal

Check out SBNation.com for all of the latest transfer deadline rumors and news.

So, let's talk about the Luka Modric deal, which, according to Harry Redknapp via the Telegraph, is at little risk of zombifying itself and lurching back to life to free the little midfielder from White Hart Lane. The Tottenham Hotspur manager apparently confirmed that Modric would be staying in his first of what will undoubtedly be many interviews today:

Harry Redknapp this morning. "Luka is staying which is great. It won't happen. One million per cent." #thfc #cfcless than a minute ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply

Meanwhile the Telegraph are saying that the deal isn't quite dead yet, flatly contradicting the man they just interviewed by saying Tottenham could still relent and sell Modric for the obscene price of £40M, which I really hope they don't, because that'd be gross. I suppose it's feasible that Chelsea could somehow apply enough pressure to pry Modric out of Daniel Levy's hands before the window shuts, but I don't see how they'd do that without doing much damage to themselves in the process.

Do you guys think that the Modric transfer is actually dead at this point?
