And just in case you needed yet more proof that Yossi Benayoun is leaving, he totally is. Earlier today Israeli sources stated that he was flying to London this evening in order to take a medical with Tottenham Hotspur, and which Benayoun hasn't been that specific, instead relying on the mystery team device that journalists know and love, he has confirmed via Twitter that he's on the way back to the capital tonight.
I am supposed to fly in the morning to London to speak with Chelsea and try to close a contract in one of the teams mentioned
Obviously, 'one of the teams mentioned doesn't have to be Tottenham', but there's very little reason for Chelsea to need to meet with Benayoun right now - he'll be going to his future club to sort everything out, not Stamford Bridge (at least, I would imagine so). This would strongly imply that Tottenham or Arsenal are his eventual destination, and as I've now mentioned several million times twice, Spurs have probably been his most likely fit ever since Rafael van der Vaart hobbled off the pitch at White Hart Lane this weekend.
I'd expect this deal, Spurs or no, confirmed by tomorrow morning (unless it's as part of a zombie Luka Modric signing, in which case who knows). And then the fun will start, at least for Chelsea. We're not going to get more than a few million pounds for Benayoun - Chelsea paid £5.5M for him last summer and he promptly spent a year hurt, so his value definitely hasn't gone up, but the space on the roster and the salary relief will be welcome.
