Chelsea FC Will Spend Before Transfer Window Closes

Check out SBNation.com for all of the latest transfer deadline rumors and news.

I know a lot of Chelsea fans are worried that the absolutely gaping hole in the central midfield isn't going to get addressed in the next 26 hours, but while the Blues aren't really involved in much except the on-off negotiations for the purchase of Uruguyan wingback Alvaro Pereira and the sale of Yossi Benayoun there's no reason to think that nothing further is going to happen. And if you wanted to be slightly cheered up about the potential additions to the squad, there's this note from Times man Ben Smith, who's as in the know as anyone:

#LFC still working hard to add a forward, tomorrow will be very busy. #CFC #AFC and #THFC will all spendless than a minute ago via Twitter for iPhone Favorite Retweet Reply

Combine that with the fact that Andre Villas-Boas has said all along that Chelsea will be getting midfield help - and that they'll have two empty international spots on their 25-man roster with the deactivation of Michael Essien and the near-certain sale of Yossi Benayoun, and you have a recipe for a big last 24 hours in the window.

Chelsea aren't stupid. They know what their problems are, and they're going to be doing their best to fix them for as low a price as possible. The fact that the media hasn't reported the backup plans doesn't mean that there aren't any, and the way the club has handled themselves in the transfer market so far this summer has been perfect. So stay calm and settle in - I don't have any inside info (nor will I ever pretend to), but I would be absolutely stunned if Blues fans came out of tomorrow disappointed with the outcome.
