Yesterday it was finalized, this morning it was dead, now it appears to be something in between. The talks for Alvaro Pereira seem to be ongoing even though how he fits still seems to be in question. According to reports out of Portugal, when asked about Chelsea's bid of 20 million Pereira's agent (Alejandro Savichara) replied with the following:

I know that was proposed earlier, and that the clubs are talking. This can only be a positive sign. What I know from Chelsea is that Chelsea are trying. One can only hope...

He also goes on to indicate that he has not begun discussions with Chelsea about personal terms, as the negotiations haven't reached that point. If you want to see Pereira here, this news seems like a positive sign. If you don't it probably seems like a bad one. Either way, it seems like Pereira would be keen on a reunion with AVB and the feeling appears to be mutual. With Yossi Benayoun looking a near certainty to depart, we now potentially have two senior roster spots open for the fall.

I still don't know quite what to make of the proposed potential Pereira deal, as we are seemingly fine on left sided talent. If it goes through, it's certainly going to be a deal that we can't really judge until we get a look at exactly how AVB plans to use him. He's certainly a talented player, but at his age and position I'm not sure that bidding any larger than we already have is a wise idea. I guess we'll just have to wait this one out and see what happens.
