Not that this move was in doubt, as Lukaku has been training with the club for a week now, but today we recieved some official word on our marquee signing of the summer so far. Lukaku has put pen to paper, and the official site unveiled him as the new Chelsea #18 today. I get the feeling that they wanted to wait for this interview before officially introducing the big Belgian, and there were a couple of interesting answers in there. Asked about why he became a Chelsea fan, Lukaku responded:
I watched the Premier League since I was nine. Every weekend I watched the games, I used to watch Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink scoring goals and remember one against Manchester United, the volley at Old Trafford, and I decided I wanted to support this team.
I just assumed his answer would have something to do with Droggles, so I was a bit surprised by his answer. He was later asked about new teammate and countryman Thibaut Courtois, which he responded with the following:
I know Thibaut, he is a very good friend of mine and we played against each other since we were 13 years old when he was at Genk and I was in Anderlecht. I remember one game we played we won 4-0 and I scored four times. Sometimes we still laugh about that, but I am happy we are in the same team because he is a very good goalkeeper who is very calm and I hope he will get a good season on loan in Atletico.
I'm thrilled to have Lukaku officially aboard, but now I have to make the difficult decision of which Lukaku jersey I want to order. With that in mind, I decided to attach a poll to get everyone else's opinion.
