This is one of the weakest rumours I've written about on the site, but as y'all may have noticed, I tend to write more about stuff I wanted to see happen, which is why there are so many articles about shooting Neymar off into a black hole* and so few about the stupid Gary Cahill thing. Anyway, according to that wonderful source known as 'everyone on Twitter', Sky Italia are reporting that someone has implied that Javier Pastore will be a Chelsea player by Tuesday. For €30M.
*Not really, but I should write some.
That 'someone' is probably Maurizio Zamparini, but unless he's gone legitimately insane rather than just being a supremely devious individual, I can't figure out why he'd reveal - and seem ok with - a Chelsea bid of only €30M. I mean, the only situation here where this makes any sense is if he's somehow trying to encourage a bidding war very late in the game, but you don't do that by slashing €15-20M off your original asking price. That's silly. You're silly, Zamparini. (If it is him. I'm just assuming, here, but I'm also convinced that this isn't the same story as the Guglielmo Micciche comments from earlier).
Anyway, there's not a lot about this that adds up. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Pastore does join Chelsea, but €30M seems too low without significant add-ons to put the fee up later. I'd also be very happy about that price, if it does come about - El Flaco for that cheap would be a really interesting buy. We'd acquire some depth in our advanced midfield, neccessary with Frank Lampard's newfound fragility, and we'd also have a potentially extraordinary player on our hands down the line.
Don't get your hopes too high yet... but this is something to keep an eye on. The momentum is building.
