Manchester United played against Major League Soccer side Seattle Sounders FC today in Seattle, trouncing their hosts 7-0. Wayne Rooney was in fine form, scoring second half hattrick as Sir Alex Ferguson's men romped all over the Sounders' second-string. No surprises there, of course. But, according to MLSsoccer.com (the official site of the MLS, no less), there was a huge shock in store for both Manchester United and Chelsea fans!
Machester United’s starting lineup was all starters, with the exception of Federico Macheda in for Rooney with Dimitar Berbatov and Chicharito both unavailable.
United fans were excited to see new signing Ashley Cole on United’s left side.
I know, I know - this opens up major holes for us at left back. It might provide more playing time for Yuri Zhirkov, Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt, but Ashley leaving - especially to a rival and on no notice at all - is a major blow and makes me feel a little bit sick. On the plus side, I guess now we know what that strange binder labelled 'operation shoot Wayne Rooney with an air rifle' that Andre Villas-Boas has been carrying around is all about.
Note: They've changed it already. That was fast. Obviously, they meant Ashley Young and are being stupid.
