Rumours are a funny thing. Most of the time I call for caution, but then a particular rumour breaks that I so desperately want to be true that I ignore that whole "don't listen to everything one sees in the paper" and start drooling over everything in glee. This is one of those times. Because, apparently, we're back in the hunt for one Alexis Sanchez!
According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, who of course are noted experts in the whereabouts of future-Sanchez, Chelsea have leaped back into contention to sign the brilliant little Chilean, whom Udinese president Giampaolo Pozzo has valued at £45M, with new manager Andre Villas-Boas particularly keen to land the 22-year-old. Sanchez is also being pursued by Manchester City and Barcelona, and is believed to have a strong preference for the later. However, they're probably not going to be able to match Udinese's desired fee, because they appear to be more than a little bit broke, which leaves everything up in the air.
The pursuit of Andre Villas-Boas, from my perspective went something like want want want, not going to get, really not going to get, might get, got. It would be super if we managed to acquire Sanchez in the same sort of way. At the very end of the piece, it mentions that the Blues might not have the funds, as they are chasing FC Porto forwards Radamel Falcao and Hulk as well. Exciting, eh? But yeah, just a rumour. Ahem.
