MotM: Chelsea 1-0 Wigan

Not exactly the boost my fragile state needed ahead of Tuesday.

Together again

I'd say that just about sums up Saturday afternoon at the Bridge. It was another labored performance, salvaged somewhat by the industry of Didier Drogba, the return of both Alex and Yossi and Flo's first goal for two-plus months.

That was it, though, really. Torres' search for a breakthrough continues, this 30-minute shift certain to be highlighted by his woeful control when played clean through rather than the overall productivity and encouraging link-up with the impressive Benayoun. His confidence must be at an extreme low, regardless.

Sure, the three points are crucial, particularly with Spurs winning as well. I applaud a win no matter how it arrives. But right now, with what we have in front of us, more was expected. Even a return to the traditional 4-3-3 didn't produce as I thought. Here's to hoping this incoherent, jagged display sparks a far more impressive outing next week at Old Trafford. No reason that cannot be the case.
