And this is what happens when clubs have to play meaningless friendlies in midseason: Injuries. Specifically, the 2011 Club World Cup has meant David Villa has broken his leg. Obviously, this is not a Barcelona blog nor an Al-Sadd blog, and I didn't watch the game because it was held at stupid o'clock in the morning, so I don't really know how or why it happened, but the Spain striker is expected to be out for the rest of the season.
Why does this matter to Chelsea? Well, realistically, it doesn't - David Villa was never coming to Stamford Bridge this January (and y'all should be glad about that, because Villa's been doing a fine Fernando Torres impression over the past year or so and Villa is 30 and expensive and your textbook terrible terrible idea) - but at least this is one transfer rumour that will die on the vine. That's one less Spain striker who'll be linked to a shock move this winter. Now it's time to hear about Fernando Torres for every single day until February.
