Easily quashing the utter ridiculousness of the rumours suggesting Romelu Lukaku will move in January

See the smile? He's not going anywhere...

If you follow twitter or any sort of Chelsea news feeder with any sort of regularity you've no doubt seen "reports" like these circulating this morning.  According to most, Romelu Lukaku has grown upset with his lack of first team action and will be moving on to a club where he can play for the spring.  I find it unlikely that Lukaku is actually unhappy at the club yet, but even if he was we can pretty much dismiss any of these rumors out of hand.  Why?  Let's turn to article 5.3 on FIFA's regulations on the status and transfer of players for some clarity on the matter:

Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during one season.  During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs.

Lukaku has played official matches during the 2011/2012 season for both RSC Anderlecht and Chelsea FC meaning that while he can technically be registered for a new club come January, the only clubs where he could play would be the two aforementioned clubs.  Unless a loan back to Anderlecht is on the cards (and I'd guess the odds of that are somewhere in the vicinity of 0%), Lukaku will not be going anywhere this January.  There's also the fact that he'll likely see more playing time come Christmas when both Didier Drogba and Saloman Kalou leave for the African Cup of Nations.  I'm sure you'll see plenty more rumours about this topic in the media (despite the fact that Lukaku's agent has denied it), but don't let yourself get worked up about them.
