January 31st 2011 will go down as the single most expensive day in the history of Chelsea football club. In addition to signing Fernando Torres to partner with and eventually replace Didier Drogba, we've signed a player to partner with and eventually replace John Terry. According to the club, we have reached an agreement with Benfica (finally) to secure the services of David Luiz for the next 5 1/2 years. Luiz reportedly cost the club about 21 million pounds cash along with young midfielder Nemanja Matic. Good luck in Portugal Nemandja, hopefully you continue to improve.
Luiz will be a welcome addition to shore up an injury riddled defense, and the young Brazilian international will be in London through the prime years of his career. Luiz unfortunately will not be available to us for the remainder of this year's Champions League, but will hopefully be a key cog in us chasing down Manchester United to retain the title. Welcome to the Premier League David, I'm sure you'll be a fan favorite at the Bridge in no time.
