Liverpool have released a statement announcing that they've agreed a fee with Chelsea over the transfer of Fernando Torres and the player has now been given permission to start talks with his new club. From the horse's mouth:
Liverpool Football Club tonight confirmed they have agreed a fee with Chelsea for the sale of Fernando Torres. The player has now been given permission to speak to the London club.
There it is. That's straight from Liverpool FC. The deal is done. Assuming Torres passes his medical, he is a Chelsea player. Many ridiculed the rumour of Chelsea's initial bid for the superstar striker, and it's a fair question as to whether he's worth the surely ludicrous transfer fee and wages (£45-50M and £175K/week respectively), but it has all come to pass and is actually happening.
Barring something very strange, Fernando Torres is Chelsea's new number nine. What an insane week it's been.
