It does indeed look like Chelsea will be shelling out quite a lot of cash for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres very, very shortly. Here's the BBC's Dan Roan:
Reliably informed that talks on image rights and salary (approx 175k/week) are all that remains forTorres deal to be completed #bbcfootball
That £175K per week deal would make him the highest paid player on Chelsea and, if rumour is to be believed, means that John Terry's salary would have to be increased by £25K per week to match it thanks to a clause in the captain's contract. Overall, that would push the total cost of Torres to almost £100M for five years, an insane total that, well, he might be worth. It's Roman Abramovich's money anyway. Torres would, of course, smash the British transfer record should Chelsea end up giving Liverpool the £50M they're asking for (who for some reason apparently want to spend that money on Andy Carroll, he of the £35M price tag).
I'd start getting used to the idea of seeing Fernando Torres in blue, if I were you - although admittedly the David Luiz deal was roughly this close and then hit a rough patch, so, er... let's wait and see. But I think this is going to happen now.
