Chelsea FC Transfer Rumours: David Luiz Deal Back On?

I'm not sure I can keep up with this. According to Portuguese paper A Bola, the negotiations between Chelsea and Benfica over David Luiz's transfer can be resuscitated. Let's do the quote/translate routine again:

Até ao fim. David Luiz continua o grande objectivo do Chelsea para reforçar a defesa ainda nesta janela de mercado, mas com o aproximar das últimas horas possíveis para confirmar transferências o processo afigura-se, naturalmente, cada vez mais difícil.

Which apparently means...

Until the end. David Luiz is still the major objective of Chelsea to strengthen the defense even in this market window, but with the close of the last hours possible to confirm the transfer process it is, of course, increasingly difficult.

So Google Translate from Portuguese isn't great, but you get the drift. That would go against what was tweeted earlier this morning by Dan Levene, namely that the deal was dead and done. A Bola continues, saying that Carlo Ancelotti in particular is desperate for the defender to join his squad and that Chelsea are still confident that they can make one last push for him before the deadline rolls in.

Obviously, this is excellent news if you're as big a fan of David Luiz as I am. I still believe that Chelsea need a centreback with John Terry starting to enter his decline years and both he and Alex so injury prone, and Luiz is about as good as will ever be available on the transfer market. There's a very good chance he could turn into a version of Ricardo Carvalho with better hair - he certainly has the ability (and the hair) and just needs more experience to turn into one of the top defenders on the planet.

Please please please make this happen.
