Malouda Out and Other Injury Updates

Malouda in happier times.
Malouda in happier times.

Let's just do some bullet points. I'm still not feeling great...

  • Florent Malouda will miss the Champions League game against Spartak Moscow with an ankle injury. Malouda was some way from his best during Chelsea's narrow win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood park, and was ultimately replaced by Daniel Sturridge with the game still even at 1-1. He had been targeted early on with some nasty tackles, and it appears that he's still feeling the after-effects. Look for Salomon Kalou or Sturridge to replace him in tomorrow's lineup against Moscow.
  • Remember how awesome it was to have Jose Bosingwa back and healthy? That didn't last long. Fortunately, this time it's unlikely to be a long term problem - Bosingwa has been suffering with an illness and like Malouda will be unavailable to start in the game tomorrow. I know how that feels, Jose. Drink lots of orange juice.
  • Is Frank Lampard fit yet? No. Maybe he will be this weekend!
  • Ramires can step up to take some of the pressure of Yuri Zhirkov's handsome and capable shoulders, however. The £18M Brazilian has recovered from the ankle injury he sustained during the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa a few weeks ago and is available against Spartak. I'd expect him to start, thanks to the rather impressive amounts of minutes Zhirkov's been racking up in the centre of midfield.
