Branislav Ivanovic Close to Signing New Deal?

Apparently there were enough reports of Branislav Ivanovic possibly heading out of Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window that his agent has struck back:

"[Ivanovic] is about to sign a contract extension with Chelsea so I really don't think he will be moving away."

-Vlado Borozan

Ignoring for a moment the absurdity of Chelsea being willing to sell one of the four centrebacks they have at their disposal in a season in which each of them has had injury concerns, it's good to see the club trying to lock down such an important player for the long term. Ivanovic can play in the centre of defence or on the right, a position in which he excelled for the Double-winning side last year with first-choice right back Jose Bosingwa out with a long term knee injury.

Now let's get Gael Kakuta extended.
