Prem Preview: Masked Men

cech-in-the-mask.jpgSo Arsenal did us no favors Sunday, dropping the balls in a loss to United. Not that that should really affect our approach against Wigan.

We still need to win out to have a chance at the Premiership title. Period.

With that being said, the road starts against the Latics tomorrow night. The most interesting aspect of this match is the possibility of Petr "I can't feel my face" Cech returning to the lineup. Cech took 50 stitches to the chin and lip area following a run-in with TBH in training last week, and looked certain to miss at least a few weeks. If he returns, he'll be donning some sort of chin-guard or mask. Put them in the Iron Maiden!

Chelsea messiah Avram Grant had this to say regarding the Cechster: "He had one training session with a mask and one without. We are checking all the possibilities with him. It would be a risk but I am not a doctor."

No, but you did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

This week also includes a trip to Liverpool to face Everton on Thusday. Neither match appears to be that difficult on paper -- Everton struggling mightily at the moment -- but I expect both will offer more than expected.

Another thing, while I was combing the web for preview info, I came across this little nugget at Goal.com: "Salomon Kalou is often overlooked in the galaxy of stars at Stamford Bridge, but the Ivorian wing-forward is rated by the statisticians who compile the Actim Index as been Chelsea’s most effective performer this season. With an impressive seven goals and nine assists already this term, the tricky forward could be the man to unlock a solid Latics defence on Monday evening."

Really? Kalou? Really? The equal parts brilliant and frustrating guy? Wow.
