Out To Make History

jermain_defoe1.jpgAvram Grant's chance to truly stamp his name on Chelsea Football Club arrives today, when the charismatic loaf attempts to win a club record 10th match on the trot in all competitions. Easier said than done.

Portsmouth plays host, with Grant's former boss, Harry Redknapp, outfitted with a few choice signings -- particularly pirate-turned-footballer Jermain Defoe. Pompey has improved this season, though results of late suggest that the club is not yet ready to challenge for Europe.

Chelsea enter the contest unbeaten in 24 games against Portsmouth. Further dampening Pompey's chances is a dismal home record -- just three wins. Redknapp is chasing his 50th Premiership victory (good luck).

Frank Lampard could earn a spot on the bench though not match fit. The biggest miss will certainly be Ric Carvalho, who is suspended. Belletti should return after serving a one-match ban.
