The UK press today have been all over The Special One about his eggs anaolgy in yesterday's Champions League pre-match press conference. You can guess the adjectives!!!
'Cracked, Cracking Up, Scrambled, Eggstactly, Fried, Boiled etc etc etc etc.'
If you are a Jose lover you could have put your mortgage on The Special One coming out with such a statement that would guarantee the 'hacks' from the press corp feverishly shorthanding, recording and hanging on to every word that The Special One speaks!!! Sometimes I wonder who is more 'cracked' up - the hacks or the non Jose believers.
Chelsea fans expect nothing less. This is why 'The Special One' IS 'The Special One.'
Before I write Jose's 'eggstraordinary' words consider this analogy spoken by Man Utd legend Eric Cantona some years ago, he said "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown in the the sea."
I am sure these words were said about the press who were following Cantona everywhere after the 'famous' kung-fu kick incident at Crystal Palace in the 90s. No doubt my erstwhile Man Utd offside colleague will correct me if I am wrong.
Back to Jose words.
Jose said "Omelette, eggs. No eggs, no omelettes. It depends on the quality of the eggs. In the supermarket you have eggs, class one, class two, class three. Some are more expensive than others, and some give you better omelettes. When the class one eggs are in Waitrose and you cannot go there, you have a problem." (Yep you are right there Jose. I can't afford to shop at Waitrose heheheheh).
Continuing along with Jose he added, "For the me the problem is not to have three or four players injured, for me the problem is which three or four are injured and that's a problem. When you have Drogba, Lampard, Ballack and Carvalho you are speaking about 40 per cent of the team. You are speaking about the spine of the team."
"When you speak about Drogba and Lampard, maybe you are speaking about more than 50 per cent of the goals the team scores, so they are important injuries, but that's the reality. I don't want to cry on it, I want to work with the players I have available.
The UK press had great pleasure in reporting that there could be 5,000 to 10,000 empty seats at Stamford Bridge tonight, despite Chelsea announcing that tickets would be available right up to kick-off. One journalist a certain Charlie Wyett from The Sun claimed in a column this morning that Chelsea attracted 46,000 for the group game against Barcelona last season - shame on you Charlie - Stamford Bridge ONLY holds 42,000.
I am not afraid to admit that I won't be going to the game this evening simply because I cannot afford it. I am more than happy to have my season ticket for Premiership games and if finances allow it, I get to go to additional games when I can - so like many many thousands of blue shirted Chelsea fans around the world I will be glued to the TV in about 2 1/4 hours time.
Remember there is no Drogba, Lampard, Ballack, Pizarro, Bridge, Carvalho tonight. So its down to Sheva, Kalou, J Cole, Shaunie to get us off to a great start in our new Champions League season quest to WIN the trophy I really really want this 2007/2008 season!!!!
COME ON CHELSEA
