The FA Cup Road to Wembley Continues - Its the Preliminary Round - And They Are Still After Chelsea's Cup

jtfacup.jpg

The FA Cup continues its Road to Wembley this weekend with the preliminary round of the most famous cup competition in the world and the teams involved are vying and dying to take the Cup off its present holders, Chelsea.

Cast your minds back a couple of weeks ago when I started this Road to Wembley feature, I chose the game between Whitehawk and VCD to follow, only because my mate at work plays for VCD.

Since then my mate has been involved in two League games for VCD since the Whitehawk game, with a record of played 2, won 1, lost 1.

He played last Monday when VCD beat Greenwich Borough, 2-0 and he scored VCD's second goal. The way he described his goal to me the other day, it was like the first goal he ever scored, but I have found out since that he has been at VCD since 1995 and the goal he scored last Monday was his 11th goal scored in his VCD career - not bad for a full-back!!!

On Saturday Chris Whitehouse (my mate) and his VCD team travel down the road to near rivals Erith Town to continue their quest for FA Cup glory. The winners of this tie at the Erith Stadium will progress to the 1st Round Qualifying (which means a minimum of 4 games before the first round proper - oh to be a semi-professional footballer).

Anyway as Chelsea are away to Aston Villa on Sunday I am hoping to hot foot it down to the Erith Stadium tomorrow and if I do I can say that I have seen a game in the FA Cup at the preliminary stage and if I do I will get some pictures of the moment.

Erith Town v VCD
Bring it on!!!
