Chelsea blew a 'wonderful' chance to close the gap on leaders Man Ure to one point at St James' Park yesterday, after the leaders were surprisingly held at home by Middlesbrough the previous afternoon.
To be fair Chelsea were poor. The game was poor and to suggest that Newcastle defended brilliantly is an abolsute nonsense, as Chelsea DID NOT test the Newcastle defence let alone 'keeper Steve Harper.
The closest Chelsea came to 'nicking' the win was in the dying seconds as Joe Cole chose to try an audacious flick which went just wide of Harper's right hand post.
The major talking points were Jose stating that Man Utd don't have penalties awarded against them at Old Trafford - to a degree he has a point - as both Sheff Utd and Middlesbrough were denied clear cut penalties at Old Trafford inside a week, and Chelsea not having penalties given as in the case of a suspect handball by Stephen Carr.
Although the Carr incident looked suspicious there could have been four occasions where ref Mark Halsey could have awarded Chelsea penalties when Antoine Sibieski chose to try and rugby tackle Super JT to the ground in the Newcastle penalty area at every Chelsea free-kick and corner.
Now lets forget Sunday and concentrate on Liverpool. This semi-final is the semi-final I REALLY want to win - not because Chelsea get to go to Athens - but I just want to beat Liverpool, even if it means winning the tie with a disputed goal - I don't care - after all Liverpool didn't two years ago.
