With Chelsea having an abundance of first team talent on the wings and playing the advanced midfield positions, it always seemed logical that Lucas Piazon would be heading out on loan. He spent last spring impressing in his limited appearances with Malaga, but a loan this season in which the player was a regular first choice starter was probably always in the best interest of the 19-year old.
There are reports this afternoon that the club has opted for this less aggressive approach, considering sending the young Brazilian to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem. We've regularly sent three players to the club every season, and Piazon would be joining Gael Kakuta and Patrick van Aanholt in the Eredivise if this comes to fruition.
Fit-wise, Vitesse would be excellent in my opinion. Piazon will likely walk right into the starting XI there, and should give the Arnhem side a real boost in their attack. With Wifried Bony and Marko van Ginkel both leaving for the Premier League, The Dutch side looked like they may be overly reliant on Gael Kakuta to create. Piazon and Kakuta would make for an awfully exciting duo, especially if the club can find an adequate replacement for Bony.
Whether or not this report proves to be accurate, it's certainly some interesting food for thought. Vitesse wouldn't be the most aggressive loan we could have made, but it would certainly give us plenty of opportunity to see the player in action.
