One of the first names the Blues were connected to this summer was Porto's Eliaquim Mangala. While I always liked the player as a fit for the Blues, I really didn't think there was much chance of his joining Chelsea. Pinto Da Costa laid out exactly what clubs will need to pay in order to take the up and coming defender away to a better place, saying the following to A Bola today:
"This footballer only leaves our club if someone pays the release clause."
The release clause is set at €50 million , and would likely come with a wage to match. A very generous estimate on the actual market value of Eliaquim Mangala is probably somewhere in the range of 1/3 of that total, and likely closer to 25%. Porto clearly don't want to sell (as is certainly their right), and probably no longer need to after making a killing from Monaco earlier this summer, so I'd guess this ends negotiations between the two clubs very quickly. So long Magala transfer rumors, I'd have loved the player at Chelsea, but dealing with Porto for anyone just isn't worth the headache.
