Mourinho Interview in The Times: Transfer targets and Fabregas in the pivot

A recent interview with Matt Hughes from the Times discusses Mourinho's plans for the season and his transfer targets.

Its behind a paywall , but someone posted it here.

On the transfer window

"This season we had different objectives in the market. We made a very early decision to go and attack three points where we felt we needed a real improvement. We will go to win the title, but obviously we have to respect the other guys because this is not a league of two. This is not Germany or Spain."

The golden part is on his plans for Fabregas though.

As Mourinho puts it, Fàbregas’s passing ability and vision from the deeper-lying midfield role he occupied at Arsenal before moving farther forward at Barcelona, will provide Chelsea with an added dimension, particularly against packed defences away from home, where defeats by Newcastle United, Stoke City, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace cost them the title last season.

"We clearly needed a player for the midfield with a different footballistic profile, and my club did fantastic the way they killed the situation with Fàbregas," Mourinho says. "He is a player of control. He’s a player that wants the ball, a player that needs the ball. He’s not the guy to run with the ball in a transitional game, he’s the guy who gives you other qualities. But in away matches we will have much more control of the game, and much more initiative than we had before."

Matt Hughes has got the impression that Mourinho wants to use Fabregas in the pivot in tough away games. I'm not sold on Fabregas in the pivot , but we'll see how he performs in preseason.
