Manchester United, Liverpool named amongst Cole suitors

Clive Brunskill

According to the Daily Mirror -- which in this case I'm assuming is a pseudonym for 'Ashley Cole's agent' -- pretty much everyone wants to sign the left back this summer. There's been plenty of speculation about where the left back will end up after the season: his Chelsea contract expires at the end of June and he's seen his place in the starting lineup usurped by Cesar Azpilicueta, and it's probably time for Cole's representatives to put some pressure on his suitors.

In this case that means saying that all the big clubs want him once he becomes a free agent. Pretty much everyone is name-checked in that Mirror piece: Real Madrid. Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and I'm sure Arsenal would have been in there if they didn't make Cole want to drive off the road in anger. But as I insinuated above, I'd be shocked if clubs really were that interested in Cole, who's on enormous wages and isn't really anywhere near his peak. This seems like an agent leak to me, presumably in an attempt to get the Blues to firm up their offer.

But I've been wrong about this sort of thing before.
