Another season is almost in the books, which means it'll soon be time for the annual awards as well. The Player of the Year voting on the official site has been open for some time now, and today they've announced the ten nominees for Goal of the Season as well.
Because they're stuck in the 20th century, I cannot embed the video with all the candidate goals in it. And of course why would they post it to YouTube? Why make it easy on the fans? So you'll have to click here and watch it on the official site. I guess you'll have to click through to cast your vote anyway.
And the nominees are:
-
Frank Lampard vs. Hull City - last season they nominated the season's first goal, this season they nominated the season's second goal. And they say we never score from free kicks!
-
Fernando Torres vs. Bayern Munich - Torres scores in Europe, and what a wonderful team move/counter it was. Started by Eden Hazard (who else?), finding the direct running of Andre Schurrle, and Torres finishing with, dare I say, aplomb.
-
Willian vs. Norwich City - Willian opens his Chelsea account with a lovely left-footed curling finish. Hello!
-
Andre Schurrle vs. Stoke City - If there's one thing we learned this year, it's that Schurrle is not afraid to shoot.
-
Ramires vs. Crystal Palace - I must admit, I had forgotten about this goal. Nice shot.
-
Oscar vs. Stoke City - The more you watch this one, the better it gets. And they say we never score from free kicks!
-
Branislav Ivanovic vs. Manchester City - A once-in-a-lifetime finish from our oft-maligned right back. The goal that made us believe.
-
Eden Hazard vs. Newcastle United - No words. Words are not good enough.
-
Samuel Eto'o vs. Arsenal - This was a great day and this is how it started.
-
Lewis Baker vs. Arsenal U21 - Offside or not, fantastic skill from the future superstar.
Last year I voted for Juan Mata's goal against Spurs and this year I'm going for another team goal as well: Eden Hazard vs. Newcastle United. Pace, passing, precision - it doesn't get any better than that.
So, cast your vote on the official site and also in the exit poll below. May the best most popular goal win!
