We all know how Jose Mourinho likes his teams to play but we're not here to talk about Jose Mourinho's tactics. I have always been drawn to the tactical side of the game and I am sure many here are as well. This post is about the members of WAGNH and how we personally like to play the game of soccer. Imagine you are the coach of Chelsea and you are given free reigns to play however you like with whoever you like. You can sell or buy (realistically) whichever players you would want in your team but the main idea is tactics. Maybe you want to go radical and use a 3 man defense. Maybe you want to be the next coming of Alex Ferguson with direct football and high octane wing play. Maybe you want Chelsea FC to be the second coming of Barcelona and play tiki taka. Either way, post your comments below with whatever tactical preferences you may have. I will start with my own.
Having been a fan of soccer and Chelsea for only four years, I have seen my own knowledge of the game grow exponentially. From the high line, disorganized press of Andre Villas Boas to the low block, soak up pressure and spring the counter style of Chelsea under Robbie Di Matteo before and during the Champions League final.. If I were the manager, my tactical style would be similar to the Italian Arrigo Sacchi. My teams would play to score goals and entertain but defend responsibly. The formation I would use would be 4-3-3. In defense, I would prefer a high line with fullbacks who support the midfield. The midfield trio would look to stay compact and shift as a unit. The attacking trident would support the midfield as well as make off ball runs when the opportunity arises. The concept here is taken directly from Arrigo Sacchi himself. I want to crunch the play in the middle of the pitch with the forwards coming deep to press the opponent. The nature of playing so close together is that it would be easy to transition between defense and attack and depending on the situation would look to possess the ball or counterattack. The main idea here is that I want the team to work as a unit, as a team. The team attacks, the team defends. I also would allow any flair players I had to express themselves as long as it wasn't to the detriment of the team. I thought a team that exemplified how I like teams to play was Bayern Munich under Jupp Heynckes.
Once again, I want to know what the rest of the WAGNH community likes tactically. Post whatever you feel expresses your personal tactics the best. I look forward to reading about everyone's tactics and I hope you enjoyed mine!
