Did sale of Juan Mata costed us the title??

Chelsea sold Juan Mata after United game in Jan. Mourinho wanted an allround performance at either end of pitch & clearly Mata is not the man for defense. Agreed, point taken. Mou looked at long term & shipped Mata out. After that, Chelsea collected 3 points out of 18 available against WHU,WBA,Villa, Palace, Sunderland, Norwich. All teams kind of easily defeatable & worth at least 12 points going by Chelsea's quality as compared to them vis-a-vis relegation fight. But all these games were lost by Chelsea's inability to unlock them - hazard was on & off, Oscar out of form, tiredness & lack of understanding between front four at crucial points (read not the correct final ball), Striker issues & may be tactics at times.

All games had a common theme - defend deep, 2 compact banks of defense, 8-10 men behind the ball always & good displays of counter attack. Chelsea couldn't effectively convert possession into goals/opportunities. Did sale of Mata had a major say? We did balance the team by bringing in Matic & it gave impetus. But, I think we did lose the title due to that sale of cutting edge.

1. Even last season Chelsea had striker issues. But Mata scored (11 last season). He still scores - May be he could have added 5 or 6 in 2nd half
2. 17 assist last season. May be he could have given much needed help to hazard & oscar & we could have been more effective at breaking the tight defenses down with those precise lofted diagonal balls, crisp through balls, and deadly one-twos.
3. Defense did improve & with Matic's inclusion, may be that option of having a attacker with an eye for goal could have been exercised.
4. He couldn't scalp important points off liverpool/city while plyaing for UTD as some had suggested.
5. He is Juan Mata.

Of course, Mourinho & many others know more about football than me, but I think his loss ( coupled with Kevin De Bruyne's sale & Salah being a downgrade ) might have costed Chelsea the title. Mata has the ability to carve out at least 5 more points.

Title went to City - most deserving among Chelsea, Liverpool & themselves. It's fine. I am in for Mourinho's blueprint & ideas for building a team for future. But, may be I will have this with me for long time. What you guys think?
